He took his first pictures, of the Yosemite Valley, in 1916, and went on to produce a body of work that has come to exemplify the definitive pictorial statement on the American western landscape. Great condition, nice selection of photographs, but the book is diminished by a meaningless though lengthy final essay. The other essays are fine and thought provoking.
